FORBIDDEN LOVE

I just finished reading this book yesterday. It's a harrowing true story of love and revenge in Jordan. Dalia was young, beautiful Arabian muslim living with her family in Amman, Jordan. At the age of 25, she unexpectedly fell in love with Michael, a major in the Royal Army, and a Catholic. For a muslim woman, any relationship with a Catholic man is forbidden and Dalia was too aware that flouting this rule could cost her her life.



But they were deeply in love and with the help of Dalia's lifelong friend, Norma, with whom she ran a hairdressing salon, they went to extraordinary lengths to find ways to meet in secret. On only a handful of ocassions were Dalia and Michael to be alone and their relationship remained entirely chaste. Although, they covered their tracks meticulously, when one of Dalia's brothers became suspicious, she was suddenly gripped by terrifying reality of what could happen to her.



This love story ends in an appalling tragedy, it's also an attempt to bring the world's attention the continuing practice of honour killing in Jordan - an ancient tradition that encourages the murder of women considered to have dishonoured the family. However, this story might have a biased side because the author's a Catholic. Nevertheless, the author did mention that the most frequent, and mistaken claim is that these murders are born of Islamic faith, when in fact the murders are a cultural hangover of tribal life that pre-dates both Islam and Christianity.


The code of honour killings has its roots in the Hammurabi and Assyrian laws from 1200 BC, which declared a woman's chastity to be her family's property. These laws evolved in an unforgiving desert and are common to all Arabs of the region, of whatever faith. These days, Christian women are just likely to be killed as Muslim women for 'dishonouring' their families.

boy, yesterday was fun! went window shopping in indro mall the whole day long.and ALONE! it might sound i dont know, but to think of it, it's kinda cool. anyway, reminiscing the old days back in high school, it's something new cause to tell u the truth, as far as i'm concerned, i'd never eat alone at the dining hall or the canteen or anywhere.


why's that?humm,it's just i'm not used to it. i'm used to walk in a group, eat along with my buddies, everything i did, i did them with my friends. i'd rather not to eat just because i dont have any friend to eat with. my appetite just went off to the drain. i looked at those who always sit and eat alone as a pity. i don't wanna become one of them. no offence for anyone kayh? i guess it's because of my nature that couldnt live alone. i love to talk, so i need at least a friend to share my thots and listen to my stupid jokes.


but that was then. now, i'm all grown up (yeah rite, i wish!):).the past did mould u to be that somebody. looking back, i did realize something. people don't change overnight. we adapt to our surroundings to survive. for better or for worse, wallahualam.



enuff about that, i had a movie marathon while in indro. watched the prince and me and continued with spider-man 2. i like both of the movies. the prince & me mcm sweet2 gituh. fairytale came true. spider-man 2 was not that bad either. it's all about the love between Peter Parker and Mary Jane. touching. najwa and bahiah 'sms'ed me while i'm in the cinema. i succeeded in making them jealous cos i got to watch the movies before them.



huda can't wait to watch oc's new series for the next season. i'm hooked! marissa's a drop dead gorgeous girl i must say. envy envy. seth's hilarious. kirsten's a groovy mom. sandy's just "3 words for hilarious, D.A.D!". officially announcing myself as one of the die hard fans of the O.C-the Orange County.
